Baldock Museum Collection

The Museum collects items relating to Baldock and its immediate vicinity. Due to the limited storage space, large items are not always accepted and it is best to telephone first before bringing them.

The Museum does not collect natural history or geological items or human remains, nor does it value items.

The main categories within the Museum collection are:

  • Photographs, glass plates, 35mm slides and albums from the 1860s to modern times.
  • Deeds and other documents relating to properties in the town.
  • Items relating to Kayser Bondor (documents, samples of products and other associated items).
  • Items relating to the brewery and malting industries.
  • Documents, brochures, booklets, books, plans, newspaper cuttings, notices, programmes, invoices, letters, town guides etc. relating to Baldock.
  • Roman coins

The Museum also has a small local history reference library which supplements the collection in Baldock Library. Researchers visiting Baldock Library should be aware that it has a local history filing cabinet.

Researchers wishing to view items from the collection or from our reference library should telephone to make an appointment in advance.
